“"The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”

For this one, I didn't have that many art materials around- only a black pen. I wanted there to be a bit of colour in the illustration so I delved into my bag and brought out my lipgloss. Not very conventional I know but I like the way it gives a hint of soft colour.

Shoe inspired by industrial revolution

Shoe inspired by industrial revolution

I decided to continue looking at the Victorian theme for my next project in which I made a shoe, This time looking at the Victorian indusrial revolution. For this I visited Armley Mill in Leeds, an old cotton mill which still contained all the original machinery. Through looking at the shapes and parts which make up the machines, it informed me in my designing of the shoe. The client was Kurt Geiger so I had to keep in mind the target market of this brand when I was designing.

So for my elective I chose to do Millinary as I have always wanted to learn how to create hats. My inspiration was Victorian gothic- think of Sweeney Todd and the costumes that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter wore. This inspiration came from Yohji Yamamotos 2007 Spring/Summer collection where there was a Victorian androgynous feel to the show.

I saw this shoe in Harvey Nichols in Leeds and I think it is so beautiful- a work of art. Designed for the Alexander McQueen collection it is made from metallic covered leather to look like it is crafted from gold- the picture really does not do the shoe justice. When you look at it for real, it appears as though it is actually made from gold.
"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play- it- safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary"

-Cecil Beaton

I love the work of fashion illustrator Jacqueline Bisset. I like how she uses monochromatic colours for the main features such as the face, hands, legs and hair; interjected with flashes of strong colour for the clothing or lips. I like the loose, flowing style and the emphasis on the eyes.
